Bayern Munich Face jail term



The world's most famous football club president  is facing jail after being sentenced for tax evasion.

Uli Hoeness formal Germany international, a member of the 1972 European Championship winners and 1974 world cup winning side, enjoyed a stellar career with Bayern. He also won three Bundesliga titles and three European cups while playing for the German giant, now the president of the club.




Uli Hoeness was found guilty by German court on Thursday and sentenced to three years and six months. He was initially charged with evading Eur3.5Million (USD4.87Million) but that increased to USD39.6Million during the trial. Uli who is 62, admitted to evading Eur28.4Million (USD39.6Million) in taxes income earned in secret Swiss Bank account.

State prosecutor Achim Von Engel had called for a prison sentence of Five and a half years for Hoeness on seven counts of tax evasion.

Hoeness will appeal the verdict, his defence lawyer, Hanns Feigen told reporters outside the court.
The notice of appeal must be handed to the supreme court in Karlsruhe. The next hearing will be on the March 20,2014.
