SSS foils jailbreak attempt

Another attempt by detained members of Nigeria’s terrorist group, the Boko Haram was foiled Yesterday at the headquarters of Nigeria’s secret police, the Department of State Security in Abuja.

“There was an attempted jail break by our inmates when the suspect handler went to feed them,” said spokeswoman Marilyn Ogar.

Ogar did not provide details on the number of inmates involved nor disclose why they were being held but said an official statement would be issued later.

The DSS headquarters in the capital Abuja is located near the presidential villa and nearby residents reported hearing gunfire on Sunday morning. Traffic was also diverted in the area.

A security source said the incident happened when inmates disarmed one of the guards, hitting him with their handcuffs before seizing his rifle and shooting him.

Emefiele Confirmed As New CBN Governor

Godwin Emefiele

The formal Zenith Bank MD has been  confirmed as the new CBN governor to replace Lamido Sanusi yesterday. This was televised live and was done before the lawmakes.

After the long Sanusi versus Jonathan's saga, Zenith bank boss Godwin Emefelie has been confirmed as the new CBN governor by the senate. 


 Senate President David Mark said 

 “Emefiele will ensure the prerequisite responsibilities of the Central Bank governor without fear or favour.”

Godwin Emefelie will be replacing Sanusi who was suspended by President Goodluck Jonathan on February 20, days after he had accused the state oil company of embezzling $20 billion (14.5 billion euros) of public funds.
Sanusi had been respected among international economists and was applauded for  repairing our crumbling and  corrupt banking sector and stabilizing the currency. 

Some of the argument amongst many Nigerians are that his(Sanusi) suspension is a politically ploy by our leaders on him for trying to expose the corruption in the country.

Gas explosion in Garki, Abuja

 

An explosion rocks Shagari Plaza on Thursday Evening at about 5.15pm along Moshood Abiola Way, Garki -Area.

 

Many expressed fear that it was a bomb explosion, a jeep parked close to the gas dispenser went in flames.

the gas retailer , who tried to recover his cash kept under one of the cylinders, was also caught in the explosion while trying to save his earnings for the day.

'As he was trying to take his money, another cylinder exploded '

 people confirmed that he just take the delivery of those gas cylinders  on Wednesday and that they are still surprised as they don't know what could have happened to the cylinders to cause the explosion.

The gas retailer was said to be receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
